Meet the Ruel Rigging Team:
Mario grew up in a farming village in Canada miles from the sea, but by the time he was 17 years old he was at sea on tall ships. Mario has sailed all over the world and round the world twice. He did the rigging on the first re-enactment of the Bounty, and in 2014 - 2015 he was chosen to be the Key Ship Rigger on the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Movie Set in the Gold Coast! Mario came to Australia in the early 1990s and established Ruel Rigging in 1994. Since then he has continued to build his reputation of extraordinary quality and thoroughness in all of his rigging work. Occasionally described as a little pedantic, but having never lost any of his rigs; it seems his approach definitely works! He is always out on the water whether it be cruising or racing, and currently thoroughly enjoys the Wednesday Woody Point races on the 109 year old 'Florrie', the first boat he worked on in Pittwater.
Dan has been working with Ruel Rigging for 4 years. Having obtained a degree in leisure management at Macquarie University, Dan then went on to develop his extensive knowledge and experience working on the tools. His ever friendly attitude and commitment to his work make him invaluable to the Ruel Rigging team. Often seen out on the water racing in the Friday night RMYC Twilights, his passion for boating makes doing his job as a rigger an absolute pleasure. Having recently enjoyed an adventurous 3 month trip around Australia in his troopy, Dan is now happy to be back in the workshop and out on the water with the Ruel Rigging Team.
Rachel is our newest team member at Ruel Rigging. Growing up on the Northern Beaches, she quickly developed a strong passion for sailing and racing. Currently, she competitively match races on Elliot 7’s, offshore races and fleet races in larger yachts, as well as Hobie 16s/14s. She is also a member of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on their youth development squad. This is an intense program, designed for young sailors, which sees her participating in intense fleet and match racing, boat maintenance, lectures and seminars, intense gym sessions 3-4 times a week, along with strict nutrition plans. In the years she has been with RPA, she has represented the club in a number of regattas, both nationally and internationally. She is also a part of the Palm Beach Sailing Club, and in previous years, she has volunteered as club Secretary and Youth Representative. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys working on her Hobie 14 turbo, which she is restoring to its former glory. “It is straight out of the 80’s and I am enjoying doing it up in my spare time. My life is based completely around the water, ocean and beach” she says. Her friendly nature, high level of fitness, willingness to help, passion for sailing and racing experience and knowledge really make her an asset to the Ruel Rigging Team.
